Products: Beef

We get our beef form Marilyn and Larry Wettstein. Marilyn is a heat-warming and helpful person, and a pleasure to work with. They both love farming and are raising their children to love and care for God's creation in the same way. They are one of a small number of sustainable farmers that found their niche in organic farming years ago.So working with them has been more to our benefit since not only are we buying a great product, but we are learning so much from them.

This is what their brochure says:

Our History

Organic Pastures is a family-owned farm located in the heart of central Illinois. Larry's grandparents settled on this farmstead in 1914. Our grain and livestock farm is now in its third generation.
With this strong connection to the land, we feel that organic farming methods simply make the most sense. We truly believe that as stewards of the soil it is our responsibility to provide the healthiest food available.
We chose a farming method that improves and builds the soil surrounding the plants, animals and our family. We wish to pass this farm on to our fourth generations.
All our farming practices are based on sustainable agriculture and are organically certified in accordance with ICO ( Indiana Certified Organic, Inc.) standards.

Our Organic Practices

  • Certified organic cattle
  • Certified organic grains
  • No commercial fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals.
  • No genetically modified seed
  • No antibiotics
  • No hormones
  • No confinement
  • No animal by-products
  • Ethical treatment of animals
  • Conservation practices of the land on which livestock is raised

Beef

We have angus-cross cattle raised on rolling pastures lush with a variety of grasses and legumes. Our cattle are wintered on our own certified organic alfalfa and clovers. Our cattle are finished and using grains grown on our farm, including corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, rye, alfalfa, and flax.
